Tech Support Scam

"We detected a virus on your computer."

How this scam works

A caller pretends to be from Microsoft, Apple, or your ISP, claiming your device is infected. They try to get you to install remote-access software or pay for fake 'support'.

🚩 Red flags

  • Unsolicited call about a virus or 'security alert'
  • Asks you to install software like AnyDesk or TeamViewer
  • Wants remote access to 'fix' your computer
  • Requests payment by gift card or for a 'support plan'

✅ What to do

Hang up. Microsoft and Apple never call you out of the blue about viruses. Never grant remote access to an unsolicited caller.
