📑
Fake Debt Collection
"You owe a debt and we'll sue you today."
How this scam works
A caller claims you owe a debt (often a payday loan you never took) and threatens lawsuits or arrest unless you pay right away. Real debts have legal disclosure rules these callers ignore.
🚩 Red flags
- •Won't provide written validation of the debt
- •Threatens arrest or immediate lawsuit
- •Knows some personal info but pressures you to pay now
- •Refuses to identify the company or its address
✅ What to do
Ask for written validation in the mail — real collectors must provide it. Don't pay or confirm anything by phone.
